\n'}],onShelf:!0,sliders:[],related:[],title:"LÜ & NSO",cover:"",site:{isOther:!1,site:"5aec47d3b01ea6000520f663",other:""},cautions:"Under the leadership of Music Director Shao-Chia LÜ, National Symphony Orchestra continues to be of the most representative orchestras in Asia. NSO and Music Director Shao-Chia LÜ program this concert specially designed for friends and fans of the southern Taiwan. The program includes Richard Strauss's Festival Prelude for Orchestra with Organ and Brahms's Symphony No. 2, and the concert invites the violinist Richard Lin to perform the violin concerto of the Taiwanese composer Tyzon Hsiao. This concent hopes to deliver the deepest musical sensation to the audience with these classical masterpieces of the East and the West.
\n\n\n\n
This concert programs works by two Romantic composers Richard Strauss and Brahms. Brahms, one of the important composers of the Mid-Romantic period, is regarded one of the German “Three Bs”, along with Bach and Beethoven. Richard Strauss is the most important composer of the late-Romantic period, whose late works indicate the stylistic tendency of Modernism, while Hsiao's works have the undertone of folk elements of musical nationalism.
\n\n\n\n
Tyzon Hsiao, a pianist, conductor and composer, is considered to be the Taiwanese Rachmaninoff—the last piano poet of Romanticism. He once sighed, "I always have a feeling that we have such excellent performers as Cho-Liang Lin, but there is no good composing in Taiwan, so that they have to play works of other cultures." After that, he composed his Violin Concerto in D Major. Hsiao's Violin Concerto in D Major is regarded as "Taiwanese Epic". Because of this violin concerto, Hsiao’s musical creativity has reached a new milestone, transforming him from a national musician into an international one. The concerto depicts beautiful, peaceful, quiet pastoral scenery of Taiwan, brings out the style of folk/nationalist music, and finally shows the love and striving for life with more modernist composition.

A genuine Mahler and yet a different one from the one I know seemed to stand before me in this music. Sometimes the sound seems to be coming from a fairy tale a long way off, for example in the fourth movement – and then it's entirely present again but without telling us “This is how we compose now!” This spirit of freedom is something very special. When you work with a piece of music as a choreographer, that is a chance to dig deep down inside it and ultimately to really experience what kind of artist someone was, how independently he worked and how unique he is. The more I listen to the Seventh, the crazier it gets. Mahler's music releases things in my own choreography which I did not believe I had in me.—Martin SCHLÄPFER about his ballet "7"
\n\n\n\n
Dancers in heavy boots and dark overcoats arrive after a long journey in a world which might become their new home. In a trio between two men and one woman their energies are intensified and discharged in a striking scene between intimacy and parting. Music and dance combine in a psychological portrait of obsessed individuals. In Martin SCHLÄPFER's ballet the world becomes a stage on which the challenges of life are literally embodied – both with seriousness and with humour. The rejections and the cracks remain intact and are not covered up. Wandering towards the fixed destination of home is no longer placed in opposition to the experience of vagrancy but finds itself within it.

Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg
\n\nThe Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg is regarded as one of Germany's most successful and innovative ballet companies. Die Deutsche Bühne had already given the company the first place in 2010, and Tanz Magazine’s poll of international critics has named Martin SCHLÄPFER “Choreographer of the Year 2010” and the Ballett am Rhein “Company of the Yea” four years in a row in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. Since the 2016/17 season, Ballet Director Remus Şucheană has been managing the company alongside Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Martin SCHLÄPFER. The company can be seen not only on the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s two stages at Opernhaus Düsseldorf and Theater Duisburg, but also in international touring and festival appearances.

Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO)
\n\nThe TSO is no stranger to international stages. The abundant performances in Europe, the States and Asia have marked it as the Taiwanese orchestra that performs most frequently in foreign countries. In 2018, under the leadership of Director Kang Kuo HO, the TSO has rebooted Taipei Music Festival with the spirit of “Taipei Renascence”, in order to promote cross-fields innovative collaboration. Through this spirit, the TSO hopes to create an epic chapter for the orchestra in the next 50 years!

Come and Sing!
\nTaiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe: Pre-WOMAD Concert
\nThe songs of Mt. Taiwu at the world's biggest festival!
\n\n
\n\n
WOMAD is an annual celebration of art that is watched by the world. Since the first WOMAD in 1980, it has become highly developed and symbolic.
\n\nThe Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe has been invited to perform at WOMADelaide and WOMAD New Zealand in March, and before they set off, they will give a pre-departure concert for indigenous folk music lovers in Taiwan.
\n
The first half of the concert, “Ancient Ballads in Acapella,” will allow listeners an immersion into the beauty of pure vocals; during the second half, “Crossover Dynamics,” the guitar, cello, keyboard, and percussion will be incorporated into all-new rearrangements. Elements of light electronic music will also be added, creating a relaxing atmosphere of joy for all who attend regardless of their age.
\n
Diversity in age will also be seen in the performers themselves. The voices of elderly singers, resonating with a sense of ritual solemnity, will be accompanied by younger singers in a heightened display of the richness and refinement of Paiwan-tribe choral singing.

The Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe
\n\nThe Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe was formed at the Taiwu Elementary School in Taiwan. In 2002, Camake VALAULE began teaching at the school and led his students in taking part in traditional singing competitions, in part to work toward passing down the legacy of Paiwan tribal singing. VALAULE began documenting ancient Paiwan songs through oral accounts and speeches from tribal elders.
\n\nThe Taiwu Ancient Ballads has performed at venues in the US, Germany, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Estonia, Switzerland, China, and Japan. The troupe has been invited to perform at WOMADelaide and WOMAD New Zealand in March, 2019. They're the first Taiwanese group to perform on the main stage of WOMAD. They have also been involved in collaborations with pipa master Wu Man and Grammy Award-winning ukulele guru Daniel Ho. Their work has been described as “heavenly music that allows one to see the mountains and hear the breeze.”
