Weiwuying Concert Hall Features Celebration: Water Music Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble and Early Music Master Join Together to Present Festive Musical Glamour
National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) Concert Hall’s featured program Celebration: Water Music is a collaboration between Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble and early music musicians from Taiwan, Europe, and Japan, led by Baroque music master Anton Steck. Weiwuying will be presenting the masterpieces by two famous musicians on Saturday, November 9th, guiding the audience into a musical night of glamour. Water Music is among the renowned works by Baroque music master Handel; its vibrant tune makes the work perfect for the lively atmosphere of festivals. Water Music was also the soundtrack for US Orlando Disney World’s “Electrical Water Pageant” and film Dead Poet Society, and is frequently used in commercials and wedding ceremonies.
The Celebration: Water Music concert will be presenting two distinctive Water Music works for the first time. German musician Anton Steck will be leading the performance as a conductor, staging Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble, a local Taiwanese early music group that has been established for over 10 years, alongside European Baroque cellist, violinist, and musicians from Bach Collegium Japan, Baroque Camerata Ensemble, Taiwan Early Music Carousel, and Tainan National University of the Arts Baroque Ensemble. The performance showcases a lively presentation of Water Music through excellent interpretations of Baroque music using Baroque musical instruments.
Handel’s Water Music was said to have been composed for a concert on the River Thames organized by King George I. The piece is filled with festive charm and elegance, and is comprised of 3 large suites and involves many brass instruments, which raised the importance of wind instruments in orchestral music. Apart from its glamorous style, the work is energetic and filled with life, inspiring audiences to sway and dance with the melody, perfect for gatherings and celebrations. The music brings a unique familiar sensation; it was selected by Orlando Disney World as the soundtrack for the Electrical Water Pageant light show at the Seven Seas Lagoon between 1977 and 1996.
Handel’s contemporary, German composer Telemann, created over 3,000 works, an astonishing amount. Telemann’s Water Music: Hamburg Ebb and Flood was composed in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Hamburg Admiralty, praising the landscape of the river Elbe and the port of Hamburg. Water Music: Hamburg Ebb and Flood is also rich with a bright, vibrant atmosphere.
