\n

A-Qiang, the only son of a leading Taiwanese Opera troupe, lost all memory of his love of Taiwanese opera in a tragic accident. Chuan, a mysterious and beautiful woman, stays always at his side, trying to help him recover his memories and his caring for the troupe by watching their favorite opera scene—Xue Ping-Gui & Wang Bao-Chuan, which is forbidden to perform for many years since the tragic accident. When circumstances eventually require the troupe to perform the scene, the bittersweet mystery erupts, generating shock waves that resound across heaven and earth.

The VMTheatre Company
\n\nThe VMTheatre Company, founded in 2007, is based on the performance concepts and creative structure of New York's musicals and feeds on local culture. The Company looks for realistic themes which are close to contemporary life from a humanistic point of view. It is especially interested in working and developing with young artists in music, dance, literature and theater in the hope of helping to contribute to the evolution of Taiwan's own musical culture through exchanging views and crossover collaborations.
\n
The company expects the audience to witness a piece of genuine human life, not merely a performance. As the actors experience aspects of life through structured speech, dance and music, the productions aim to become an experience that is not only emotionally shared between the performers and the audience, but actually co-created by performer and audience member.

\nOr someone else?
\n
Reaching the 90th anniversary since its formation, Ming Hwa Yuan has transformed from “the ditch of career choice” to choice artistic career that transcend generations. In recent years, the group focuses on preserving their legacy with efforts like creating series of youth oriented productions by Playwright/director CHEN Sheng-Guo. These productions serve as a platform for new talents to shine, with the hope of injecting new breeze of life into Taiwanese traditional performing arts.
\n\n\n\n
The Battle of Dragon City marks the 90th anniversary memorial production of Ming Hwa Yuan, forming the narrative from a common war cry of bandits “fellas, let's rob!“, to depict a world through the lens of commoners.
\n\n\n\n
The Bandits portrays the rise of common bandits, their journey from zeroes to heroes. This proves that even commoners can achieve greatness in this chaotic world. In the sequel production, The Battle of Dragon City, what seems like a conflict between common folks and the authority lies the suspenseful reveal of the rightful Lord of Dragon City.
\n\n\n\n
The Bandits of the Tiger Ridge encounter the soldiers of the Dragon City; the force of Tiger-Pond Fort was vanquished, yet the beautiful bandit leader Lu Ling-Xi was pardoned by the victor. What fate awaits the defeated bandits?
\n\n\n\n
The ill stricken Lu Ling-Xi betrays her paternal family and her fiancé, the existing Lord of Dragon City, to join Tiger-Pond Fort. How will the love conflict formed by these individuals play out and resolve?
\n\n\n\n
What is the secret bond between Dragon City and Tiger-Pond Fort? A hidden pass will be uncovered with the fall of the Fort. Who is the rightful Lord of Dragon City? The existing scheming lord? The brave common bandit? Or someone else?
\n\n\n\n
Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group
\n\nEstablished in 1929, Ming Hwa Yuan went through thick and thin of GeZaiXi over the years, elevating the art form through the ages into a lively, colorfully imaginative, contemporary stage performance. With engaging stories that tackle modern issues, Ming Hwa Yuan was able to elevate GeZaiXi, Taiwanese Opera, a folk art performed on outdoor stage into the pantheon of national theatre, transforming a waning traditional art form to a shining beacon of Taiwan's cultural industry.
\n
The group continues to develop GeZaiXi as a medium to catapult Taiwan's unique culture to the global theatre scene, touring various continents and presenting the “Musical of the Orient” to more audiences around the world.

Ugorski's interpretations are informed by his personal beliefs. An intrinsic aspect of his artistic personality is that he challenges audiences and critics to discourse. Some considered his tempo to be a wholehearted intellectual testing of the musical material, others were outraged by the freedom he took with his interpretation. Unaffected by such debates, Ugorski holds to the musico-philosophical mantra that there is no supreme interpretative rule or ‘definative’ interpretation, only the “truth of the moment.”
\n
Anatol Ugorski is one of the very few pianists who experienced a meteoric rise in fame who also kept up and even refined his deep pianistic beliefs. Deeply rooted in the often-cited “Russian tradition” he is also a highly individualistic virtuoso personality. His distinctive commitment to 20th century composers like Messiaen and Boulez is characterized in an anecdote from 1967 when he attended one of the few guest concerts of Pierre Boulez in the Soviet Union. In May 2019, this extraordinary pianist is going to make his debut in Taiwan for all the Weiwuying's Audiences!
\n\n\n\n
\n\n
Anatol Ugorski
\n\nAnatol Ugorski was born in Leningrad in 1942 and grew up in a poor background: a xylophone and his voice were his only instruments. When he was six years old he took part at the qualifying exam for Leningrad Conservatory, having had no previous musical education. He was accepted, despite never having played a piano before. He left the school in 1960 and continued his studies with Nadeshda Golubovskaya until 1965.
\n\nIn February 2000 Anatol Ugorski was nominated for the American Grammy for his recording of Scriabin's piano concerts and “Promethée. Le Poème du feu” with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Boulez.
\n\nToday Anatol Ugorski lives in Detmold, where he taught as professor for piano at the Music Academy until 2007.

Whether You Are Willing Or Not,
\nTime Will Always Push You To Grow, To Bloom, And To Wither.
\n\n
What do you think of life?
\n\nDancer, choreographer and inventor Huang Yi spends ten years contemplating this question, and answers it with a revolving stage and mesmerizing stories. Weaving together technology and artistry, A Million Miles Away pushes the boundaries of technology and art, sharing moments in life that carries us forward. On this 9-meter diameter revolving stage, Huang Yi explores life with unexpected encounters, creating lasting memories to be shared with us all.
\n\nIn 2017, Huang Yi Studio + received the first joint commission by the National Theater & Concert Hall, National Taichung Theater, and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) to create A Million Miles Away.

Huang Yi Studio
\n\nHuang Yi Studio was founded in 2010 by Huang Yi. Concentration on creation is what we have consistently tried to maintain. “Concentration” is challenging to accomplish a work under the situation in Taiwan, where the environment for artists is relatively difficult in comparison with that in European countries and the U.S. After collaborating with international artists and groups, we realize that the standard we have been insisting on is what makes the studio unique. The completion of a new work requires the accumulation of many experiments as well as the devotion of substantial time and resources to shape the concepts. With limited resources of our own, we are very thankful to many institutes and individuals for their assistance and support. We are extremely grateful that the audiences continue to pay attention to us and remember to support our works even when we cannot afford the mass publicity due to the limitation of manpower. We sincerely appreciate each of you from the bottom of our hearts.

On stage, a house appears from nothing. It goes up fast, choreographed like time-lapse photography. Residents move in, move out, get evicted, burn it down, loot it, rent it, remodel it, get married and divorced in it, grow up in it, die in it, haunt it — and all the while, they leave and live among traces of residents present, past, and future. They throw a party, as if everyone who ever lived there could cohabitate, transcending the logic of time and space.
\n
HOME is a large-scale performance work that explores and explodes the relationship between “House” and “Home.” A visual physical spectacle, HOME combines dance, illusion, live music, home-spun engineering, and an inventive use of audience interaction to compose a work that asks, where is home? If it is not a place, what is home?

Desolate yet passionate is the image Sibelius' Violin Concerto leaves the audience with. His Symphony No. 4 was completed under the shadow of death. Hear how Yu-Chien Tseng and Sladkovsky interpret the complex Sibelius to discover the true self within.
\nSibelius composed his Symphony No. 4 during a low point in his life. Threatened by disease and death, the composer found relief in expressing himself through his art. The tension, anxiety, and ominous premonition of death found in his music are true and raw.
\nSibelius' Violin Concerto is one of the most popular pieces among all violin concertos. Tonight Yu-Chien Tseng will examine the composer's loneliness and harshness to understand the life of the composer and comprehend the truth and eternity of music.

Cameron Carpenter
\n\nCameron Carpenter is having a ball smashing the stereotypes of organists and organ music – all the while generating worldwide acclaim and controversy. His repertoire – from the complete works of J. S. Bach to film scores, his original works and hundreds of transcriptions and arrangements – is probably the most diverse of any organist, regularly appearing as a soloist with many of the world's great orchestras.
\n
A virtuoso composer-performer unique among keyboardists, Cameron's approach to the organ is smashing the stereotypes of organists and organ music while generating a level of acclaim, exposure, and controversy unprecedented for an organist. His repertoire – from the complete works of J. S. Bach and Cesar Franck, to his hundreds of transcriptions of non-organ works, his original compositions, and his collaborations with jazz and pop artists – is perhaps the largest and most diverse of any organist. He is the first organist ever nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for a solo album.
\n
As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 before joining the American Boychoir School in 1992 as a boy soprano. During his four years of high school studies at The North Carolina School of the Arts, he made his first studies in orchestration and orchestral composition, and transcribed for the organ more than 100 major works, including Gustav Mahler’s complete Symphony No. 5. Cameron continued composing after moving to New York City in 2000 to attend The Juilliard School. While at the School he composed art songs; the symphonic poem Child of Baghdad (2003) for orchestra, chorus and Ondes Martenot; his first substantial works for solo organ; and numerous organ arrangements of piano works by Chopin, Godowsky, Grainger, Ives, Liszt, Medtner, Rachmaninoff, Schumann, and others. Cameron received a Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School in New York in 2006.
\n
The same year, he began his worldwide organ concert tours, giving numerous debuts at venues including Royal Albert Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Melbourne Town Hall, Tschaikowsky Hall in Moscow, Davies Hall in San Francisco and many others. His first album for Telarc®, the GRAMMY®-nominated Revolutionary (2008), was followed in 2010 by the critically acclaimed full length DVD and CD Cameron Live! Edition Peters became his publisher in 2010, beginning the ongoing release of his original works with Aria, Op. 1 (2010). His first major work for organ and orchestra, The Scandal, Op. 3, was commissioned by the Cologne Philharmonie (KölnMusic GmbH) and premiered on New Year's Day 2011 by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie under the direction of Alexander Shelley. Of Cameron the composer, DIE WELT’s Manuel Brug writes: “Carpenter… is proving himself to be a clever eclecticist, who understands to entertain with much finesse, and admits with a wink that he is ‘annoyed by intellectual music’”.
\n
Cameron is one of the only performing artists to make a practice of meeting his audience in person before his performances – often spending over an hour before each concert shaking hands and signing autographs on the floor of a concert venue. With combined millions of hits on YouTube and numerous television, radio and press features including CNN The Next List, CBS Sunday Morning, BBC Radio 3, ARD, ZDF, NDR Kultur, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal and many others, he is the world's most visible organist.

A cappella, music consisting of only vocals, has been on the rise in Taiwan for many years. More and more audiences are growing fond of this form of music. Vocals are the most beautiful instruments. Emotions communicated through vocal harmonies often surpass those portrayed by other instruments. Iconic songs that audiences are familiar with are interpreted with pure vocals. They give the songs a completely new style, which is also a major feature of a cappella. For the performance at National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) this time, the focus will be Mandarin, Hokkien, and English songs that audiences are familiar with. The content is designed to be enjoyed by kids and parents, and there will also be interactive singing with the audiences. We hope that a cappella will give audiences a relaxing and joyful time.

\n\nWho says you need to be serious to enter the National Performing Arts Center? "Dacon.come" will exceed your imagination with a relaxing no-pressure theater experience, your best choice to unwind the mind and body!
\n\n\n\n

\n\nA Da, whose real name is Chen Yan-Da, is short and stocky, while Kang Kang, whose real name is He Rui-Kang, is 190 cm tall. A Da has been working in comedy since 2007 and has appeared in many television commercials.

What do you think of when the name "Dadado Huang" is brought up? Is it his iconic song "Shangri-la", his humor on stage, or his image of a sweet man in the hearts of his fans?
\n
From his first album "Hard Days" to his concert at TICC with 3,000 attendees, Dadado Huang has always stood strong in Taiwan's independent music scene with the style of folk music on guitar. In recent years, he has also been performing a lot in the form of a band. This time, invited by Weiwuying Kaohsiung, he is inviting an accordionist to pair up with his acoustic guitar in order to echo the venue's unique elegant atmosphere, reinterpreting the classic songs that we are familiar with.
\n
Many of Dadado Huang's fans have graduated and entered the workforce, but they're still listening to his touching songs. This time, Dadado Huang especially wants to invite those who have graduated to come with a colleague after work to listen to him sing. It'll be just as heart-warming and humorous as it used to be, and it'll still make you smile like a fool on your way home. It's Dadado Huang.
\n
Dadado Huang
\n\nSince the release of singer-songwriter Dadado Huang's first album in 2007, the song "Shangri-la" has been there to accompany many people when they feel lost. After four albums and hundreds of performances, in 2016 Dadado Huang successfully conquered TICC with 3,000 attendees at his concert. He has crossed the boundaries of both mainstream and non-mainstream music, and he continues to touch people with his music.
