Artists Introduction
Oboe|CHENG Hua-hsin
Currently Oboe/English Horn player of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra as well as a Marigaux performing artist in Taiwan. Ms. CHENG received a Bachelor's degree from the National Taipei University of the Arts, a Master's degree at the Karlsruhe University of Music in Germany, and completed her advanced studies as Orchester Solist at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. Her major teachers include Professor LIU Rong-yi, Professor Thomas INDERMÜL, and Professor Emanuel ABBÜHL.
Oboe|CHEN Pin-hui
CHEN Pin-hui graduated from the Institute of Orchestral and Percussion at National Taipei University of the Arts, where she was taught by Professor LIU Rong-yi. During her studies, she was sponsored by the Ministry of Education as an exchange student at the Hochschule für music Detmold in Germany.
Clarinet|YEH Min-ho
Currently Professor of Clarinet at the National Kaohsiung Normal University, Dr. YEH holds a DM from Indiana University, a MM from New England Conservatory, and a BA from National Taiwan Normal University. He was a member of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, Magic Clarinet Quartet, and was a full-time Assistant Professor at the University of Central Arkansas in the USA.
Clarinet|LIU Kai-ni
Kai-ni graduated from Detmold University of Music in Germany. In 2000-2001, she won consecutively in the Deutsche Musikrat Wettbewerb and National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. From 2003 to 2005 she worked for the Macau Orchestra. After returning to Taiwan, she was invited to serve as a guest clarinetist for the NTSO, KSO, and NSO. Kai-ni is the founder of the "Sen Trio d'Anches" and clarinetist of Taiwan Connection Chamber Orchestra. She teaches at the National Tainan University of Arts.
Basset Horn|HAN Chien-feng
Currently a member of Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Mr. HAN holds a Bachelor's degree from Taipei National University of the Arts and a Master's degree from National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied with Professors SUNG Wei-teh and CHEN Wei-leng, respectively. In 2007, he began his study at Hochschule für Musik Detmold under Professor Thomas LINDHORST. In 2012, he received full point again with excellence for Konzertexamen. After moving back to Taiwan, HAN joined the Magic Clarinet Quartet and started his professional career with the group.
Basset Horn|William CHUANG Wei-ling
Currently Principal Clarinet of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Mr. CHUANG received degrees from the National Taiwan Normal University (BM) and the Taipei National University of the Arts (MM) under the tutelage of Professor SUNG Wei-teh. He was in the Performer's Diploma program at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA, studying with the renowned Canadian Clarinetist James CAMPBELL. He is also a member of several chamber groups, promoting wind chamber music regularly.
Bassoon|CHEN I-hsiu
CHEN I-hsiu currently serves as the Associate Principal Bassoon of the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan. As an advocate of chamber music, I-hsiu is a founding member of the ProArt Bassoon Ensemble, Bassoonism Bassoon Quartet, and Ensemble Opus 5.0. In addition, she has taken her collective experience and has been adjunct faculty at Tunghai University, National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Sun Yat-sen University, Fu Jen Catholic University, and Wu-ling Senior High School.
Bassoon|HUANG Tzu-i
HUANG Tzu-i, Bassoonist, was born in Kaohsiung City. She received her diploma in Concert Performance in the study field bassoon from School of Music Mainz at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. Enthusiastic in bassoon solo, chamber music, and orchestra, HUANG has performed with various ensembles and professional orchestras.
Horn|CHEN Yen-how
Professor CHEN Yen-how is now holding the post of adjunct Associate Professor and instructor of horn playing, chamber music and brass ensemble. After graduation from music department of TNUA, he studied abroad in Royal College of Music. He also participated in many orchestras as Solo Horn. Till now, multiple solo and chamber music concerts were held. Professor CHEN now stands as a mature and charming horn player, active in musical scenes.
Horn|HSUEH Chen-yuan
Currently a member of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra. HSUEH holds a Master's degree from Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and a Bachelor's degree from University of Taipei, under the tutelage of Professor Friedrich KETTSCHAU, LIEN Ya-wen, and LEE Hsin-hui. He was a member of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra between 2016-2018. He is adjunct lecturer at the Tainan University of Technology, the National Pingtung University, and teaches at several high school's music programs.
Horn|James CHEN
CHEN has been Principal Horn of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra since 2020. Hailed by critics as "soulful beyond his years," James CHEN is a rising hornist in his generation. While a student of Robert WARD at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, CHEN won the position in the newly minted Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. Having completed major orchestral tours in Europe and Asia with different orchestras including several phenomenal performances of MAHLER's Fifth Symphony as the obligato soloist in the famed Berlin Philharmonie and Amsterdam Concertgebouw, CHEN started appearing in orchestras in Asia.
Horn|HUANG Tzu-ching
Tzu-ching is currently a member of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, and is also on the faculty at the National Sun Yat-sen University and Tainan National University of Arts. She held an internship position with Münster Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2012. She has performed with Barock Akademie Detmold and Junge Kammerphilharmonie NRW in 2009. Tzu-ching received her Konzertexam and Diploma degree from Hochschule für Musik Detmold where she studied with Professor Nobert STERTZ (Principal Horn of Dortmund Philharmonic).
Double Bass|CHIU Yi-hsuan
Bassist CHIU Yi-hsuan has received a Konzertexamen degree in Solo Performance from Hochschule für Musik Saar (Germany), a Masters of music (Kovner Fellowship) and a Bachelor of music degrees from The Juilliard School (USA). She won the academy position with Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and served as Principal Bassist for the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 2015. CHIU is now the Adjunct Assistant Professor at National Kaohsiung Normal University.
