Artists Introduction
Conductor|LIU Meng-hau
Apex Orchestra Music Director and Conductor LIU Meng-hau graduated with a double master's degree in violin and cello from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he also learned to conduct. Before that, while pursuing an undergraduate degree in music at Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan, he came to love the expressive tension of symphony orchestra timbre and played in a variety of orchestra performances. After earning his bachelor's, he joined the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra. In order to push his performance capacity to the next level and experience musical training in another culture, he decided to go to the US to study for the abovementioned double master's. His return to Taiwan brought him back to the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster, since which he has performed countless concerts.
Besides his stringency in and passion for his work, he is also particular in his conduct . In 2010, Edward TU encouraged LIU, who by then had accumulated a wealth of experience and ideas on instructional philosophy, to join him in founding Apex Orchestra as its Music Director and Conductor. With regular symphony orchestra concerts, they perform classical pieces, rooting the orchestra in southern Taiwanese music.
Apex Orchestra
With spreading the classical music of southern Taiwan as their foundational mission, Orchestra Director Edward TU and Music Director and Conductor LIU Meng-hau formed Apex Orchestra in November 2010, whose regular symphony orchestra and string orchestra concerts are sponsored by local corporations.
Apex Orchestra underwent a transformation in 2017, inviting Taiwanese musicians who had completed studies overseas to join the orchestra as section principals and members while allowing students to perform with the orchestra as a form of cultivation for young, local talent viewed to have potential. The following year, they began adding introductory talks to their concerts to give audiences a better understanding from multiple perspectives of classical music. Also, Apex Orchestra began visiting middle and high schools to bring this music closer to teens and allow them to feel its singular appeal and depth.
The Apex Orchestra has grown strong on the foundation of its members' cohesiveness and seamless cooperation. With its unique timbre and sound that goes straight to the heart, Apex Orchestra contributes another level of brilliance to art in Kaohsiung, transmitting a sense of warmth and happiness into the daily lives of listeners.
