2024/3/3(Sun) 01:00-02:00
Duration is approximately 60 minutes.
Venue: Concert Hall
Program
A lot of BEETHOVEN's works are well-known, which makes it challenging to arrange for jazz. Besides his string quartets, I especially love his symphonic works and, of course, his piano sonatas in which he embraced the bass register of the piano more heavily than other composers in the classical period. I want to challenge myself to try something different this time. Instead of a piano trio with both the bass and the drums, I would like to play a duo only with the drums to freely incorporate the entire piano keyboard on all registers.
BEETHOVEN also often used "germ motives" as one of his compositional techniques that greatly influenced my work. I feel it's somewhat similar to building a jazz solo section, which is comparable to the so-called development in Classical music. In Jazz, you can play with simple motives during an entire solo. The way the solo is developed is what distinguishes the musician as a good story teller.
I sincerely hope that you can come and celebrate BEETHOVEN's music with my twist! After recording SCHUBERT and MOZART for our soon-to-be released EP Album, I myself am curious which repertoire from Beethoven will take me into the recording studio next. Please come join us for a sneak peek into this continuous project. Venture with me, and I look forward to playing for you on the night of "Tempest"! (Written by CHEN Jo-yu)
