Conductor|Shih Hung Young
Shih-Hung Young, Chinese Conductor and violinist from Taiwan, was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and later came to the United States to attend the Juilliard Pre-College. He received his Bachelor's and Master's of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and a Doctorate of Music from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr.Young has been on The Juilliard School Pre-College Division faculty since 1995.
An active conductor of symphonic, film scores and operas, and a performer of solo and chamber music recitals, Dr. Young serves as a conductor for Howard Shore's Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings: Live to Projection & Lord of the Rings Symphony. He recently began conducting Hans Zimmer's award winning score Gladiator: Live to Projection, collaborating with Golden Globe winner Lisa Gerrard.
Upcoming performances include concerts in Bulgaria, Madrid, Barcelona and Munich.
Evergreen Symphony Orchestra
Founded and supervised by the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra (ESO) is exceptional in being the only professional orchestra in Taiwan overseen by a private foundation, and one of but a few of its kind on the international stage. Young and energetic, full of team spirit and discipline,and characterized by outstanding professionalism and a unique style, the ESO's mission is to offer the public superior performances of classical music by training and employing local talent. We are devoted to fostering young musicians and cultivating an environment and outlook that is both rooted in Taiwan and open to the world, an aspiration that is amply reflected in our musical repertoire.
Taiwan National Choir
In order to help the young vocalists developing their careers, and provide elaborate programs for the audience all over Taiwan, Taiwan National Choir was established under the supervision of the Ministry of Education in 1985. Over seven hundred concerts were performed in the past thirty years. Cheng-Chih Wu, who is also the director of National Taiwan Normal University , is the director currently. Since 2007 to 2012, professor Agnes Grossmann, who is invited to be the music director of chorus.
The repertoire of Taiwan National Choir is extensive, ranging from folk songs from various countries, lieder to motets, masses, cantatas, and oratorios. Its members are primarily students of vocal music plus a number of accomplished singers who have graduated from the music schools overseas. Practices are held twice a week at least. It is the most proficient and welcomed chorus funded by the government. Hopefully it will reach the requirement for a full-time professional chorus in the near future.
