Set in the 1920’s and shot as a black-and-white silent film, The Artist tells the story of the dashing silent movie star George Valentin after a chance encounter with a young dancer and aspiring actress named Peppy Miller. As their fortunes dramatically reverse, George and Peppy must come to terms not only with their love for each other, but with the pressures of their rapidly changing world.

Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (KSO)
It is an asset for a city to have an orchestra of its own. Young and energetic, the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (KSO) was founded in 1981. It was merged with the Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra in 2009 as “Kaohsiung Philharmonic Culture and Arts Foundation”. In 2012, the orchestra officially moved into Dadong Arts Center, and regularly invites world-class conductors and masters for collaboration. It also challenges itself by staging performances of diversified styles.The KSO has not only created increasingly more high-quality musical miscellanies for citizens and music enthusiasts; it has also planted numerous seeds for music appreciation and performance, contributing to the innovation of classical music.
Since 2009, the KSO has made considerable contribution in the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival, successfully promoting its grassland concerts. KSO also took part in full opera production in Kaohsiung Spring Art Festival-Magic Flute, La Traviata, Carmen and La Boheme ,which has gained significant resonance and praise from the audience
The KSO has been invited to perform on international stages in the USA, Shanghai, Singapore and Beijing. In 2017, the KSO was invited to the Beethoven-themed Spring Green Music Festival in Kanazawa, Japan, as well as Hong Kong’s 2017 Taiwan Culture Festival. With the self-development goal of becoming an internationally acclaimed orchestra, the KSO has gradually reached beyond city and country borders.
Ludovic BOURCE, Composer and Pianist
Oscar© award-winning French composer Ludovic Bource began his career as a composer for commercials and short films, in addition to producing albums for French pop, hip-hop and electronic artists.
Ludovic Bource met Director Michel Hazanavicius in 1998 and was asked by the director to score the music for his first film Mes Amis (My Friends)(1999). Michel Hazanavicius and Ludovic Bource would successfully renew their collaboration in subsequent years for the films , Nest of Spies (2006), Rio ne répond plus (Lost in Rio) (2009), until the very successful, The Artist (2011). The Original soundtrack composed by Ludovic Bource for The Artist has been lauded by international critics and has won numerous awards and prized including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a César Award and a BAFTA.
In addition to his career as composer, Ludovic Bource continues his adventure with The Artist, performing in cinema screenings with live music around the world, in the most prestigious cinemas, alongside the world’s most talented orchestras.
