Return to Southern Taiwan-Chu-shui CHEN & Tyzen HSIAO Joint Exhibition
This year, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) and the Taiwan Music Institute, National Center for Traditional Arts have worked together in a collaboration to launch a series of concerts and exhibition on Taiwanese composers. Through this coordination between the two arts institutes, one in the North and the other in the South, we hope to further the musical development of Taiwan by retracing the musical history of Taiwan and promoting the works of Taiwanese composers. The first event of this series is a joint exhibition of two important Taiwanese musicians, Tyzen HSIAO (1938-2015) and Chu-Shui CHEN (1942-1986). Both of themwere born in Kaohsiung then left for Taipei in their youth to pursue musical studies and returned after finishing their studies. The two became close friends even though they had different musical achievements afterwards. This joint exhibition features their rare personal belongings, written correspondence, notes, and manuscripts, it also offers a glimpse into the culturally flourished Kaohsiung in that times.
