The soft and tender melody, the rhythmic percussion, and the serene crooning of the singer are complemented by a full jazz band, creating a perfect union between Brazilian music and jazz. This time at Weiwuying's Concert Hall, trumpeter Stacey WEI has invited "the King of Taiwanese drummers" Rich HUANG, Golden Melody Award Best Female Singer Waa WEI, and a group of the most active jazz musicians in Taiwan to the vineyard-style playground for a special musical treat. Music Director and Trumpet|Stacey WEI
As the first Master of jazz trumpet performance in Taiwan, Stacey WEI serves as Director of National Dong Hwa University Arts Center, assistant professor of the University's Department of Music, and the Taiwan endorser for Yamaha jazz trumpet. The genres of music performed by WEI include jazz, classical, and pop music. WEI advocates jazz education and has served as Music Director of 2010 Taichung Jazz Festival, Teaching Director of NTCH Jazz Camp, and Curator of NTCH Summer Jazz Project.
Vocal|Waa WEI
Waa wei is a Taiwanese pop artist, songwriter, radio DJ and actress, famous for her sweet distinctive voice and her vocal flexibility. She released six albums including 2019《Hidden, Not Forgotten》、2017《Run! Frantic Flowers!》、2014《You Lovely Bastard》、2011《No Crying》、2010《Graceful Porcupine》、2007《La Dolce Vita》, and also she had nominated for the Golden Melody Awards four times for 'Best Female Singe'.
Drums|Rich HUANG
Rich HUANG has been a jazz drummer and composer for over 50 years. His superb skills won him the title of "Drummer King of Taiwan" and the Special Contribution Award of the 31 st GMA. Often invited to perform in jazz festivals at home and abroad, HUANG held his solo concert in National Concert Hall in 2000, with a repertoire covering pop, classical, jazz, and traditional music. As a part-time professor of Music Department at Fu Jen Catholic University and Senior Consultant of Taiwan Percussion Arts Alliance (TPAA), HUANG has promoted drum set for over 40 years.
Drums|LIN Wei-chung
LIN Wei-chung is a lecturer of Department of Music, National Dong Hwa University, and is active in the field of jazz music in Taiwan. The genres of music performed by LIN include jazz, funk, and rock'n roll. With his avant-garde music, LIN has performed in Spring Scream and Ho-hai-yan Rock Festival and participated in the recording of many albums, such as Animal Triste of CHEN Ying-da. LIN has also performed in Gary CHAW, Joanna WANG, and Yoga LIN's concerts.
Guitar|Masuda Shoji
Graduating from Berklee College of Music, Masuda Shoji masters various music styles, including jazz, Brazilian, and pop music. Shoji was invited to perform in Shanghai/ Taipei/ Taichung Jazz Festivals and worked with singers Mavis FAN, Jam HSIAO, and groups Godot Theatre Company and Greenray Theatre Company. Shoji is also an experienced teacher, and has been a regular lecturer in Chinese Culture University and Tainan National University of the Arts, and serves as Director of Taiwan Pop Music in Yamaha Music Foundation of Japan.
Piano|HSU Yu-ying
HSU Yu-ying is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and music producer. HSU has published 4 albums with her work of jazz music and won the Best Album Producer, Best Album, and Best Instrumental Recording Album Award of the GMA with her 3 rd album, Happened, Happening, in 2018. Having performed with many renowned jazz musicians in many countries, including France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and the US. HSU was also invited to perform in NTCH Summer Jazz Party and Taipei / Taichung Jazz Festival.
Double Bass|Yohei Yamada
Yohei Yamada graduated from Berklee College of Music, majoring in jazz bass/double bass performance. Having learned classical performance from Minoru Yamazaki, Yamada served as a teacher in International Nibori Guitar Academy and a lecturer of double bass performance for NTCH Jazz Camp since 2008. Having performed with many renowned jazz musicians, Yamada also designed the music for the performance SAO in 2016 and served as a double bassist in the world tour concert of Gary CHAW in 2014 and the musical Anything Goes in 2011.
Percussions|WU Cheng-chun
WU Cheng-chun is the Music Director of EJ Music Studio and a member of Sizhukong and Sheng-xiang & Band, specializing in playing the erhu, Latin and Chinese percussion instruments, frame drums, drum set, etc. Combining Chinese music with percussion to successfully enrich his performance types, WU was nominated for the Best Musician Award of the GIMA with Spin in 2012. WU has performed with many groups and musicians, including Japan-Ondekoza, Matthew Lien, A-mei, Harlem YU, Jody CHIANG, and Jay CHOU.
Trombone|Nick Javier
Hailing from the US, Nick Javier was a graduate of Michigan State University and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, and received his MA in jazz music from Michigan State University in 2008. He is a regular at jazz music festivals in Taiwan and around East Asia, including summer 2010 performances in Tokyo and Yokohama under the invitation of Japanese drummist Tomoyuki Okabe, and at the 2013 Thailand International Jazz Conference. Aside from jazz, he is also a frequent collaborator with many of the top names in Taiwanese pop music. He currently lectures at Tunghai University and National Chiayi University, and is a brand ambassador for CarolBrass trombones.
Saxophone|Shawna YANG
As a renowned saxophonist in the field of jazz music in Taiwan, Shawna YANG was nominated for 4 GIMA awards and 3 GMA awards with her jazz album, Simple Life, in 2015 and 2016, and has won the Best Instrumental Album Award. YANG has performed in many countries with world-famous jazz musicians, including Alex Sipiagin, Eric Richards, Paul Haar from the US, Osamu Koichi, Daiki Yasukagaw, Naoko Tanaka from Japan, and jazz bands including MusicMusicMusic and Tuesday Microgroove.
