24-Hour SCHUBERT Excavation
\n\nIt is not uncommon to listen to BEETHOVEN's nine symphonies in one day, but to hear SCHUBERT's nine symphonies in one day is rare indeed!
\n\n\n\n
In SCHUBERT's short 31-year life, after completing seven symphonies, he "completed" another symphony known as "Unfinished." Many other fragments left behind by the composer were later organized into another symphony by scholars, making nine symphonies in total. How many of them have you listened to in live performance?
\n\n\n\n
Maybe you have listened to "The Great" and "Unfinished" more than once, but the others are often shadowed by these two. It's rare enough for Symphony No. 4 The Tragic or Symphony No. 6 to be picked by conductors, and the others together may appear less than five times in a decade. On the 225th anniversary of SCHUBERT's birth, Weiwuying will present 24-Hour SCHUBERT, restoring the glory of "Schubertiade" in a day. There will be "The Complete Symphonies" performed by National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), and Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra (KSO), respectively conducted by Australian conductor Alexander BRIGER, NSO's Resident Conductor CHANG Yin-fang, and KSO's Resident Conductor YANG Chih-chin. Music fans could collect the complete nine symphonies at once, or choose any work that they have never heard. Mix and match to taste.
\n\n\n\n
In addition to the symphonies, SCHUBERT has written more large-scale orchestral works and six masses. This time, Weiwuying will bring you the most pioneering romantic work, Mass No. 5, performed by Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and National Symphony Orchestra, led by the conductor KU Yu-chung John, giving the audience the prayers and strength from heaven.
\n\n\n\n
Like its name, 24-Hour SCHUBERT, the music will keep running till late at night. Instead of closing tonight, the concert hall, together with the audience, will "Sleep No More at Midnight," to hear jazzy SCHUBERT fantasy with a swing improvisation trio: piano by CHEN Jo-yu, drum by HUANG Tzu-yu, and bass by HSIEH Zong-han. After midnight, two piano sonatas, D958 and D894, will be gently played like the mumble of introspection. The audience can experience a dark night with the composer from two hundred years ago.
\n\n\n\n
If you feel that you have in your seat for too long, you might take a walk outside to the 3rd floor lobby, and join one of the lectures and performances - "SCHUBERT Talk & Show" - that will be offered throughout the day. The lectures and performances will be presented by invited scholars and the musicians. Through the commentary and live music demonstrations, the audience will gain a better understanding of the composer's extraordinary life and remarkable chamber music work. If you visit the lobby again after midnight, the classic 1969 performance of Trout quintet will be shown: cellist Jacqueline du PRÉ, pianist Daniel BARENBOIM, violinist Itzhak PERLMAN, violist Pinchas ZUKERMAN, plus the conductor Zubin MEHTA playing the double bass! The exceptional collaboration of the great "Kosher Nostra" will accompany the audience till dawn.
\n\n\n\n
The Weiwuying Concert Hall's 24-Hour SCHUBERT is a brand-new program in Taiwan and a one-time-only event. This will be the only opportunity to fully experience the symphonic charm of SCHUBERT!

Resembling Bohemian ideals, with little regard to fame and fortune, the composer Franz SCHUBERT is a representative of Early Romanticism, yet he is also considered to be the last master of the Classical era. In his short life of only 31 years, he was able to composed more than 600 songs, and numerous instrumental works, both for small and large scale works, and through them, the gift of his talent and genius is shared and never lost.
\n\n\n\n
SCHUBERT's contribution to chamber music is generous and cannot be ignored. Both him and Beethoven founded the greatness of German-Austrian Romantic music. SCHUBERT was able to combine a unique sense of sentimentality and delicate features coupled with the Viennese elegance and beautiful melodies; while also inheriting the grandeur of Beethoven. It can be surmised that SCHUBERT combined the best of MOZART and BEETHOVEN.
\n\n\n\n
SCHUBERT may never had had the ambition to declare himself as someone great, yet it is without a doubt that his seemingly ordinary and simplicity of his compositions produced beauty that goes beyond greatness.

What You Don't Know About the Little Mushroom, SCHUBERT
\n\n"Heidenröslein" is a world-famous classic of SCHUBERT'S that has been translated into and sung in many languages. For this performance, a fine collection of SCHUBERT's works were selected, including Heidenröslein in Cape No. 7, Military March used as award ceremony music, Hark! Hark! The Lark! that sings happily in the sky, the ingenious Moment Musicaux, the Piano Trio in B-flat Major, String Quartet Der Tod und das Mädchen, and Gretchen am Spinnrade. In addition, this performance combines storytelling and drama performance to present SCHUBERT'S works through a narrative approach, showcasing the ethereally elegant and pure melodies of SCHUBERT that are befitting of his nickname "Little Mushroom"!
\n\nThe Counterpoint Ensemble has gradually evolved from delivering family concerts that are much loved by children into providing quality concerts that are suitable for all ages. By way of high-quality music performances and simple storylines, the ensemble hopes to present a different introduction to SCHUBERT by turning abstract music into an enjoyable film-like experience.
