Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble - Traveling through the Baroque Wonderland
Baroque composers take their audiences through time and space with the music they composed to express the sights and sounds they experienced in the countries and regions they traveled to or described by other travelers.
Georg Philipp TELEMANN structured his Concerto Polonois on the special musical style of the Polish region, creating a unique piece filled with Polish flair. Music of Ouverture in B flat major, being no title, on the other hand, is a series of short suites, composed to present the ethnic elements of different countries. Premier Ordre: La Françoise, an excerpt of Les Nations by François COUPERIN, consists of four suites, each named after a nation or a kingdom. In contrary, La Folia bears no direct indication to any nation, but has been directly and closely linked to the musical elements and history of Spain.
This concert aims to bring the audience through a sensory journey to experience the rainbow colors of world music.

Team Introduction
Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble
Established in 2008, Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble is the first professional Baroque ensemble formed by Taiwanese period-instrument musicians. The members have all studied in Europe for many years, where they received rigorous training on the interpretation and performance of Baroque music and acquired professional diplomas for period-instrument performance, and are thus among the few performers specializing in Baroque performance in Taiwan. Throughout more than a decade, the ensemble has persisted in performances using period instruments with aim to present the original sound of Baroque music!
Owing to the lack of performance opportunities for Taiwanese performers of period instruments, the ensemble started expanding in 2011 to give performers who were dedicated to the research, performance, and promotion of Baroque music the opportunities to voice themselves on venues such as international concerts, lecture concerts, and seminars. In addition, courses and seminars were designed to break the stereotype that Baroque music can only be enjoyed by adults and niche music lovers.
From 2017 to 2019, the ensemble held the Baroque Music Workshop together with National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), which trained Baroque musicians and allowed them to expand their styles and goals. In 2020, the ensemble collaborated with the young Kaoshiung-based group Shine Zone Theatre, which by combining drama with Baroque music, effectively created a new genre that incorporates drama in Baroque music concerts. Concerts suitable for families with children were also held to stimulate interest in children and help them to form the habit of going to concerts at a young age. By integrating elements that appeal to students, and performing musicals and introducing period instruments at rural schools or schools with scarce artistic and cultural resources, the ensemble was able to bridge the cultural gap, while students were given the opportunity to interact with the monotonous textbook terms "Baroque art" and "Baroque period" from another perspective by engaging in in-person interactions and watching dramas.
