FEATURING CARAMELO DE CUBA & RAUL PINEDA
Opening 2023, double bassist and composer Vincent HSU, expert in Afro-Cuban jazz fusion, will lead The Jazz Supreme Orchestra, performing with two renowned Cuban musicians Javier MASSÓ and Raul PINEDA. MASSÓ was hailed as the "Best Latin Jazz Musician of the Year" by the leading jazz magazine DownBeat, and has collaborated with legendary musicians such as Omara PORTUONDO from Buena Vista Social Club. PINEDA at just 19 joined the band of Cuban pianist Chucho VALDÉS, which won the Grammy Award for "Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year." This performance will center on the double bass, with double pianos and double drums as unconventional rhythm section on top of the large ensemble. The music style shifts between jazz and Latin: not only will they bring back Motown classics from the 60s, but also reinterpret the uninhibited rock spirit of the eminent Cuban band Irakere. HSU will also bring his sonic character of narrative composition, Afro-Cuban polyrhythm, and jazz improvisation to this concert with diverse layers and stellar cast.

The Jazz Supreme Orchestra
The name of "Jazz Supreme" comes from paying tribute to John COLTRANE's "A Love Supreme" and its core spirit to summon the love and beauty of the universe with jazz. Furthermore, "The Jazz Supreme Projects" look forward to extending the value of jazz into people's daily lives. The Founder and Music Director, Vincent HSU, hopes to introduce the audience to various instrumentations, sounds, and styles of jazz through a series of live performances, master classes, lectures, radio and cross-disciplinary exchanges. "The Jazz Supreme Orchestra" is one of the platforms to gather different generations of jazz musicians. In the future, "The Jazz Supreme Projects" will continue to nurture and diversify Taiwan's jazz culture through the collaboration and co-production between international and Taiwanese musicians.
