【2022 Taiwan Dance Platform】YEH Ming-hwa X Kaohsiung City Ballet - Dancing Ballet
Have you ever seen kids in dance clothes and puffy skirts sitting on motorcycles on the road? They are probably on their way to dance or on their way to class. This is one of the common city scenes in Kaohsiung, and a real scene of choreographer YEH Ming-hwa growing up in this city.
The little girl who lives in the South Taiwan postal code 822 whispers a prayer at the window in winter: "Santa Claus, Santa Claus, please make it snow outside my house on Christmas Eve .....". But, will it snow in Kaohsiung? And is the development of ballet in Taiwan the same as snow?
Many children have entered the world of dance, especially girls, but why girls? Many people still want to ask: "Why do you dance as a boy? And then ask how ballet can survive? "The dancers can only smile lightly, put on their bags and continue to walk to class ....
Dancing Ballet " is a commissioned creation of 2022 Taiwan Dance Platform, inviting Kaohsiung-born choreographer YEH Ming-hwa to collaborate with "Kaohsiung City Ballet", which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The company is the inspiration for her dance training in Kaohsiung, and her ballet training has deeply influenced her body vocabulary and the development of her unique gestures. This time, through her own experiences and contemporary creative vision, Yeh will create a landscape of ballet in Taiwan.
The work will be created and performed by the company's students of different ages, along with the company's dancers and teachers, and is the first chapter of YEH Ming-hwa's "Dancing Ballet" creation.
