Masters Play II - Beyond the Music Boundary @WEIWUYING
From the Tamsui River in Taipei to the Love River in Kaohsiung, from downtown to seaside harbors, from shining brilliantly in the 1940s all the way to the 21st century, his songs have portrayed the life and nostalgia of the people of Taiwan.
Throughout his career as a singer-songwriter, ANG It-hong depicted the traditions and customs, trials and tribulations, and romantic entanglements of the people of Taiwan in creations that have won musical acclaim and withstood the test of time. He collaborated with his good friend YEH Chun-lin on many timeless classics that have won universal praise. As the undisputed King of Formosan Music, ANG and his music stood at the pinnacle of early Taiwanese musical creation.
For 2023 Masters Play II – ANG It-hong x CHIEN Wen-pin x Henry HSU Beyond the Music Boundary @WEIWUYING we have once again given careful consideration to our selection of music and artists. The wonderful works of the late ANG It-hong will be reinterpreted with pure classical music arrangements and sung by Henry HSU (the latest Golden Melody Award winner who has both endeared himself to older listeners and gained popularity with younger fans) in a performance coordinated, and conducted by international maestro CHIEN Wen-pin. Through music, they will depict the gorgeous and emotive scenery of Southern Taiwan and weave a tale of this exquisite island gem that shimmers between sea and sky.

"King of Formosan Music" HUNG Yi-feng (ANG It-hong)
ANG It-hong's career as a singer-songwriter was one long successful streak that began with his debut in the 1940s and has lasted into the 21st century. His legacy includes both his own creations and covers of Japanese songs that are still relished by his fans. ANG's musical aesthetics were derived not only from his artistic abilities but also from a background rooted in folklore that the public could strongly relate to. His on-stage work even extended to performances in Taiwanese films.
Hailed as the "King of Formosan Music," ANG's prestige and influence in the local music scene are unmatched. In 2010, he was awarded a Presidential Commendation in which he was singled out for the universal popularity of his music and won praise for his independent creative spirit and for setting a precedent for the performing arts in Taiwan as the bright, eternal guiding star of the country's music industry.
HSU Fu-kai (Henry HSU)
Since his participation in a televised singing contest in 2004, Henry HSU has won the support of music fans with his superior singing ability and emotional performances; perhaps surprisingly, he has also become the ‘darling boy’ of every mother and grandmother in Taiwan. His popularity remains at an all-time high with no other singer of his generation able to take his spot.
So far, HSU has released 11 Taiwanese solo albums and won the Golden Melody Award for Best Male Taiwanese Singer in 2021. Through his musical and personal charm, he has also won over the younger generation with music in Mandarin. Hsu has even managed to make the leap from singing to hosting programs and acting in movies and dramas. He is also known for his volunteer work performing in fundraising events for social welfare organizations.
