Counterpoint Ensemble will continue the electric spark from March's "24 Hours BEETHOVEN" with conductor Brain Liao, who won the First Prize at the 2nd International Conducting Competition "Llíria City of Music" in Valencia and also received the Third Prize and Orchestra Prize at the 8th Lovro von Matačić International Conducting Competition, in 2023. This concert will allow the audience to experience a diverse range of musical styles.
On November 30, we invite everyone to join us at the Weiwuying Concert Hall for a journey through Scotland. Experience the clouds, rain, and mist of the Highlands, and enjoy a vibrant, fun-filled exploration spanning three centuries!
While modern travelers capture their experiences with phones and social media, Mendelssohn traveled with a sketchbook and notebook, turning the landscapes he saw and the emotions he felt into timeless music. Listening to his travel-inspired compositions is like watching a travel show! His "Scottish Symphony," inspired by the cultural history of Mary, Queen of Scots, came from his first trip to Edinburgh. He wrote to his family, describing a visit to the palace where Queen Mary lived and loved. He noted, "In the evening twilight, we went to the palace... I believe I found today in that old chapel the beginning of my Scottish Symphony." After his travels, Mendelssohn spent 13 years reflecting on Scottish dances and folk tunes, imitating the sound of bagpipes and capturing the grandeur of the mountains, making the listener feel immersed in that distant beauty.
The concert will also feature Stravinsky's "Concerto in D for String Orchestra," which embodies the spirit of Coco Chanel's simplification and Picasso's bold creativity, rearranging traditional structures in a unique style, showcasing the richness of string sounds with classic, resilience, and elegance.
