[2025 Weiwuying International Music Festival] Opening Concert: Love Stories and Fairy Tales
Beginning in the 19th century, Shakespeare fever swept across Russia as Alexander PUSHKIN explored the former's techniques and politics. One of TCHAIKOVSKY's greatest pieces is Romeo and Juliet Fantasia Overture, with a lyrical period at the start to create emotional depth. The second half keeps focusing on love with ZEMLINSKY's Die Seejungfrau, written during heartbreak based on the folk tale The Little Mermaid. Through post-Romantic sound, it sublimely portrays how two souls meet, fall in love, and are separated for life.
Between these will be SZYMANOWSKI's Violin Concerto. Inspired by a five-verse poem of T. MICIŃSKI's, it captures the poem's ecstasy and fear and gives a peek directly into the heart within a single movement and five periods.
