Resident Conductor CHIU Shih-hsuan and Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra
This concert marks CHIU Shih-hsuan's first appearance as Resident Conductor of Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, marking the beginning of a new artistic partnership with the orchestra. He believes that conducting is far more than guiding an ensemble—it is about uniting hearts and shaping a shared musical voice through every breath and every gesture. Renowned for his refined musical interpretation and extensive experience in arts administration, CHIU seeks to lead the orchestra in honouring tradition while embracing innovation, bringing audiences closer to the warmth and vitality of orchestral music and sharing Taiwan's musical voice with the world. ★ Pipa Virtuoso CHUANG Hsueh-man Performs Flying Fairies of the Silk Road
Pipa virtuoso CHUANG Hsueh-man, a member of Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, performs ZHAO Cong's Flying Fairies of the Silk Road. Inspired by the celestial dancers of Dunhuang, the work combines traditional pipa techniques with a contemporary musical language, bringing the splendour of Silk Road culture vividly to life while showcasing the instrument's poetic lyricism and dazzling virtuosity.
★ Dizi Virtuoso HOU Guang-yu × NCO Sheng Principal CHEN Chi-mi — A Featured Double Concerto
Celebrated dizi virtuoso HOU Guang-yu joins CHEN Chi-mi, Principal Sheng of the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan, in NG Cheuk-yin's Concerto No. 1 for Dizi and Sheng. Through the dialogue between dizi and sheng, the concerto explores new sonic possibilities between soloists and orchestra, revealing the expressive breadth of contemporary orchestral music while paying tribute to those who pursue their ideals with courage and conviction.

Inspired by landscapes, cultural traditions and lived experience, Journeys • Cities • Memories weaves together cities, cultures and personal memories into a richly woven musical journey.
The concert opens with LU Liang-hui's Memories of Childhood, whose warm and heartfelt melodies evoke the innocence of youth. It is followed by LO Wei-lun’s Kaohsiung Capriccio, a signature work of Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra that captures the unique spirit and cultural landscape of Kaohsiung. CHUANG Hsueh-man then performs ZHAO Cong's Flying Fairies of the Silk Road, where the imagery of Dunhuang comes alive through brilliant pipa virtuosity and a contemporary musical language.
The second half begins with HOU Guang-yu and CHEN Chi-mi in NG Cheuk-yin’s Concerto No. 1 for Dizi and Sheng, showcasing the vibrant imagination and sonic possibilities of contemporary orchestral music. The programme culminates in KWAN Nai-chung’s landmark masterpiece Journey to Lhasa, one of the composer's most celebrated works, capturing the grandeur of the highlands and the richness of their cultural heritage through sweeping orchestral colours and dramatic musical expression.
More than a debut concert, Journeys • Cities • Memories marks a defining milestone for Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra and Resident Conductor CHIU Shih-hsuan as they embark on a new artistic chapter together.
