Advanced Course │ Activities for Both Groups
- Performing and Life: Performing on stage and performing an everyday task in real life are very different things. How should we approach performance? Let’s take a moment and truly experience the performing life and life as performance.
- Body Language: Have you ever wondered how your body moves? What are the underlying mechanisms of movement? How can the body be used to express emotion? There are many things to explore here, and we will go over them in detail.
- The Theater Space: Now that you have found your voice, the next step is to learn to use it to express different emotions. What is the relationship between voice and the emotions? Let’s dive in and find out!
- Theater in Life: Learn to make miniature models of real life objects as an introduction to concepts of scale and scale modeling. You will create your own imagined space through the making of these models.
- Theater in Life: Every inanimate object has its own story. How do we tell the stories of these objects? Even more, how do we perform these stories?
- Lighting Design: Light is not a tangible object, yet its presence is felt by the audience. How can we envision the physical presence of light in a theater? What are some common types of lighting equipment and what purpose do they serve? Are there different ways to create unique lighting?
- Photo composition: In addition to light and shadow, composition and proportion are important keys to a good photograph. Want some useful tips for taking good photos? This is the class for you!
- The Art of Theatrical Make-up: Apart from learning the fundamental differences in male and female make-up, you will be practicing using makeup to apply bruises to the skin. We will observe common types of bruises and reproduce them with our make-up kits!
- Costume Design: Effective storytelling requires the right costumes with the right fabric, colors, and tailoring. We will play with these elements to see what kinds of costumes we can create.
- Weiwuying Tour: The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts is committed to cultivating performing arts talent in southern Taiwan. We will take a tour of the Weiwuying and see what surprises it has in store for us.
- Master Class – Actors: Actors are the public face of a production, a position which puts them under great pressure, both on- and off-stage. What do actors give up to be in the spotlight? We will hear several actors’ success stories.
- Master Class – Production Designers: What is production design? What do production designers do? How do they build a set from scratch? We’ll go behind the scenes and find out.
- Proposals and Closing Ceremony: On the last day of the 2020 Weiwuying Teens in Theater, each group will put on a final performance for the other group. Students will work with their mentors and teaching assistants to design and present a performance based on a given theme through eight days of discussion, learning, and rehearsals, with complete free reign over its content and style.
